Boy, 13, shot to death in Chicago Lawn

chicago teen 13 shotA 13-year-old boy was shot to death Sunday night in the South Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood after someone asked him about his gang affiliation.

Demureya Macon, 13, was shot in the torso in the 6600 block of South Talman at 8:35 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Demureya was with a friend when someone walked out of a nearby alley and asked him about his gang affiliation, according to a police report. The person then pulled out a handgun and began firing.

The teen was shot in the chest and tried to run away, according to the source. He was found lying on a nearby sidewalk.

Demureya, of the 6400 block of South Maplewood, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:36 p.m., authorities said.

According to the report, the teen had no reported gang affiliations. He was a seventh-grade student at Fairfield Elementary School.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
