US Attorney: 55 arrested in drugs investigations

blankociated Press | September 30, 2010

CHICAGO — Federal officials in Chicago say 55 alleged narcotics suppliers, street gang members and other suspects have been arrested as part of multiple investigations into criminal activity.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald told reporters Thursday that raids also netted tens of kilograms of heroin and cocaine, as well as nearly 20 guns and more than $800,000 in cash.

One of those arrested is allegedly a wholesale dealer with links to Mexican drug networks.

Fitzgerald says the arrests are part of a push by federal, state and local officials to disrupt organized-crime groups. A similar round of arrests took place earlier in September.

Most of the latest arrests occurred this week. The suspects face a host of federal and state charges.
