Boone County plans anti-gang forum

BELVIDERE, Ill. — A prosecutor in northern Illinois is continuing her battle against gangs by seeking the public’s help.

Boone County State’s Attorney Michelle Courier organized the first of two public forums Thursday to get ideas about how to battle gangs and gang violence.

Courier tells the Rockford Register Star that she hopes to create a countywide gang task force.

Earlier this year, Courier sued several known gang members and won a permanent injunction against six Latin Kings. That ruling prohibits the men from being members of the street gang or blankociating in public with other known gang members.

Courier says the public forums are part of efforts to build on the momentum created by that lawsuit.
