A Central Gwinnett High School student suspected of gang involvement was arrested recently for carrying a .22-caliber pistol on campus, according to a report released Thursday. His Lawrenceville school is just across the street from the Gwinnett County Schools police headquarters.

The teen was reportedly wearing gang colors Sept. 30 when he was spotted by an blankistant principal who stopped him for the dress code violation.

The student was then taken to an administrative office where he was searched and questioned. The teen soon confessed to being a gang member, police said.

“The student was showing his colors of the gang he belongs to, the Bloods,” Jim Haralson, a Gwinnett County Schools resource officer, said in a police report. “In his front pocket, he was in the possession of a .22-caliber handgun that was loaded with five rounds.”

The teen also carried a bandana, gang writing, drawings and some homemade brblank knuckles for protection. “The student also had rolled coins to be used in a fight taped together as a weapon,” Haralson wrote.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon within a school safety zone and participation in criminal street gang activity.
