A 16-year-old was recovering today after he was shot in the head in what police said was a gang-related attack in Boyle Heights.

The teenager, whose name was not released, was the passenger in a car driven by a 20-year-old man, who was shot in the hand. The two were attacked shortly after midnight as the two rode west on Boulder Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Officer Norma Eisenman.

Two males apparently drove up to the car and questioned the two, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Kevin Jolivette of the Hollenbeck Division, which patrols the area

“The suspects in the car asked them where they were from, and then shots rang out,” Jolivette said.

Both were taken to County-USC Medical Center, where the youth was in critical condition this morning, the 20-year-old in stable condition, Eisenman said.

It was not clear this morning whether the victims were affiliated with a gang, Jolivette said.
