Coroner’s officials reported 14 killings between Oct. 11 and Oct. 17, bringing the year-to-date total in Los Angeles County to 507, according to data collected for The Times’ Homicide Report database.

Countywide homicide rates still remain lower than in previous years: There were 597 killings during the same period last year, 702 the year before and 777 in 2007.

At least five homicides were gang-related, authorities said.

On Oct. 11, Marco Reyes, 25, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in Huntington Park about 2:20 p.m. when he was shot several times, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner’s office.

Authorities were called, and Reyes was taken to a hospital in Lynwood where he died three hours later, according to coroner’s records.

Winter said the shooting was reported as gang-related.

Later that day, Enrico Willingham, 38, was shot to death in the Vermont Vista neighborhood in South Los Angeles.
Police received a 911 call reporting shots fired about 8:50 p.m., said Det. Scott Smith, who works with the LAPD criminal-gang and homicide unit.

When authorities arrived, they found Willingham on the corner suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he later died, Smith said.

At this time, investigators have not made any arrests in connection with the case and do not have a description of the shooter.
