RIVERSIDE: Gang members sentenced for killing rival

Two brothers have each received consecutive sentences of 25 years to life in prison and life in prison without parole for their first-degree murder convictions in the 2009 slaying of a rival gang member, court records show.
Victor E. Ramirez Jr., 30, and Armando A. Ramirez, 27, both of Riverside, were sentenced Friday, Oct. 26, for their roles in the shooting death of Ruben Rivera, who was 18 when he was killed as he stood in front of his apartment at a complex near Hole and Bonita avenues at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 27, 2009.
Prosecutors said in court papers the Ramirez brothers were members of a La Sierra gang, and Rivera was a member of a rival gang whose members had five days earlier had come by Armando Ramirez’s home in a car, showed a gun and threw gang signs during a confrontation.
