Jammed Gun May Have Saved Deputy’s Life

KTLA News | October 31, 2010
LANCASTER — A semi-automatic handgun jamming may have saved the life of an L.A. County Sheriff’s deputy Saturday in the high desert community of Lancaster.

Two people are under arrest.

The incident began with what sheriff’s officials described as a routine traffic stop early Saturday about 3:40 a.m. Deputies say the vehicle did not have a front license plate.

According to the department, as the deputy pulled behind the vehicle he heard two shots and saw a muzzle flash come from the vehicle as the suspect sped away.

After a short chase, the suspects were cornered, captured and arrested. Deputies discovered a TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun with a near-full clip.

The TEC-9, an inaccurate weapon which bears the dubious distinction of being one of the most widely used “criminal” guns in the USA, had jammed and was unable to be fired.
