Four arrested in gang-related shooting in Cathedral City

Desert Sun staff reports • November 1, 2008

Police have arrested multiple suspects following a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting overnight in Cathedral City.

Four suspects are detained in the Riverside County Jail in Indio on charges connected to the shooting, which police say occurred at about midnight.

No injuries were reported and the occupants of the victim car were not found and have not contacted police, officials said.

The incident started when patrolling police officers spotted a fast-moving truck leaving the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store, 68-258 Ramon Road.

According to police, the truck appeared to be following another vehicle as it headed westbound on Ramon Road.

The driver of the truck caught up to the car at the intersection of Whispering Palms.

Officers in a patrol car behind the two vehicles watched as a passenger in the truck, identified as Ernesto Iniguez, 22, of Cathedral City, leaned out of the vehicle and allegedly fired two shots at the occupants of the victim car.

The truck then turned north on Whispering Palms, where police stopped the truck in the 31-800 block.

The driver, two females, and Iniguez were detained and the truck searched. Officers recovered a .22 caliber Ruger semi-automatic handgun. It was loaded and unregistered, police said.

One of the suspects reportedly told police the incident began in the Circle K parking lot when occupants of the victim vehicle, alleged “other gang members” from another Coachella Valley city, fired a shot at the occupants of the truck.

Police have detained the four on charges related to the shooting and other felony violations.
