san jose gan related arrested 3SAN JOSE — Three men, including a father-and-son duo, have been arrested in the deadly Nov. 4 shooting of a man inside a vacant apartment in South San Jose in what investigators have deemed a gang-motivated attack, according to the San Jose Police Department.

Jose Hugo Quiroz Sr., 49; Brandon Eric Joseph Brown, 23; and Jose Hugo Quiroz Jr., 17, all from San Jose, are in custody after they were arrested last week in the killing of 19-year-old San Jose resident Juan Guillen in the 5700 block of Almaden Road south of Blossom Hill Road. All have been charged with gang enhancements and are being held without bail. The younger Quiroz is being tried as an adult.

The elder Quiroz and his son were arrested Thursday, and Brown was arrested Friday, police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.

Investigators say a gang rivalry between the suspects and Guillen, who was accompanied by a 16-year-old boy, fueled the shooting. Morales said both the suspects and victims had gang ties.

Why they all were in the vacant apartment unit the afternoon of Nov. 4 was not disclosed. Police also clarified that in his haste to escape the gunfire, the 16-year-old indeed suffered a graze wound to his torso. In the days after the shooting, they had reported first that the teen had been shot, then retracted that claim.

No one involved in the shooting was associated with the apartment. The death marked the city’s 31st homicide of the year.

Anyone with information about the case can contact Detective Sgt. Ray Avalos or Detective Brian McDonald at 408-277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP (7867) or at
