Yuba, Sutter Agencies Team Up To Make Arrests

Drugs, guns, and cash were seized Thursday in a sweeping gang raid in Sutter and Yuba counties.Twenty-five people were arrested in what is being called Operation Showdown.The raids are the result of a three-month undercover operation where officers infiltrated known gangs dealing in drugs and guns.Because of the threat of violence, a SWAT team was called out to arrest a gang leader in Sutter County.”His gang, it’s a well-known gang. The activities they continue to involve themselves in criminial activity, drug activity and gang activity,” John Daracco from the Department of Correction said.During the undercover operation, agents made dozens of drug and gun buys.During Thursday’s raid, six gang members and eight associates were among the 25 arrested.They seized nearly six pounds of methamphetamine, heroin, and 42 pounds of marijuana — including “superplants” that produce producing eight pounds of marijuana buds per plant.Agents also found more than $100,000 and seized eight guns, including two assault rifles.Department of Justice special agent Michelle Gregory called the raids successful.”It’s a joint operation with our narcotics task force here in Yuba, Sutter counties. Multiple agencies were involved,” Gregory said.Operation Showdown is the latest gang takedown launched by the state Department of Justice to crack down on violent gangs now spreading to rural areas.Most recently, state narcotics agents shut down a Norteno street gang and a violent carjacking ring in Stockton.
