Santa Ana man dead in gang-related shooting

Residents found him laying on their front porch around 4 a.m.

SANTA ANA A 20-year-old Santa Ana man was shot to death early this morning in what police are calling a gang-related shooting.

Police were called at 4:10 a.m. to a house in the 1100 block of South Mohawk Drive. Residents said they heard a knock on the door and found 20-year-old Pedro Mercado lying on their front porch with gunshot wounds in his upper torso.

Paramedics responded, and Mercado died at the scene, Santa Ana Police Cmdr. Steve Colon said.

“The information is pretty limited at this time due to the nature of how this guy came to be found,” Colon said.
