Eastside alleged gang stabbing the latest in a wave of violence

In the latest gang attack to rattle Santa Barbara, a group of men chased and beat a 21-year-old man with a club and a knife, stabbing him several times before running from the scene, authorities said.

That attack occurred near the corner of Milpas and Yanonali streets just before 6 p.m.

Authorities found the man suffering from multiple stab wounds, sitting at a table at Winchell’s Donuts.

When authorities found the man, friend was tending to him. The friend had removed his own shirt and pressed it against the biggest gash, in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

The victim left a trail of blood along the sidewalk on Milpas St. after the attack.

Both the victim and his friend are gang members, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The man, who never lost consciousness in the attack, was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. His wounds were not believed to be life threatening.

The Santa Barbara Police Department said the victim and his friend were walking on Milpas street near the corner of Alisos and Yanonali streets.

Eyewitnesses said the suspects drove up to the victim in a red SUV. The suspects got out of the vehicles, authorities said, and chased the two men, one of whom got away.
