LOS ANGELES– An 18 year old was fatally shot as he walked near a busy Los Angeles intersection Sunday afternoon, it what is believed to be a gang related shooting.

At 2:35 p.m. Sunday, 18 year old Juan Segura was walking with a friend along the sidewalk in the 1000 block of South La Brea Avenue near Olympic Boulevard when a car pulled alongside them and at least one of the occupants opened fire, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department

Segura was hit by the gunfire and collapsed on the sidewalk, Rayner said.

City fire personnel transported Segura to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

There are no suspects in custody, though the LAPD believes the shooting to be gang related.

Segura’s friend was not injured.

Detectives believe there may have been many witnesses who fled during the shooting, and ask those people who may have potentially very valuable information to contact Wilshire Area Homicide Detectives, at (213) 473-0446 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7
