A gang member recently paroled to a rival gang’s area was shot in the head Sunday night by rival gang members on the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles.

En route to see his girlfriend, the parolee was spotted by gang rivals near 117th Street and Compton Avenue around 8:30 p.m., prompting a pursuit onto the 105 Freeway and then onto the southbound 110 Freeway.

“The male victim was driving when several rounds were fired into his car” around 9 p.m., Sgt. Rudy Alaniz of the Los Angeles Police Department 77th Street Station told City News Service. A bullet entered and exited the victim’s head above his left ear.

Despite his head wound, the victim, whose identify has been withheld, was walking and talking when officers arrived on the scene. He was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.
