ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Albuquerque authorities had to use pepper rounds to break up an unruly crowd outside a funeral home as rival gangs squared off Friday night.

Dozens of Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies and Albuquerque police officers swarmed the Gabaldon Mortuary after hearing about a possible gang fight. Police said a large group of people had gathered outside the funeral of a rival gang member.

Officers told the crowd to disperse, and some people became rowdy.

One man threw rocks at officers, and the officers responded with a few rounds of pepper balls.

Several people were arrested and face charges that include disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly.
