Two Reedley gang members face life in prison without parole after a jury found them guilty this afternoon of two counts of first-degree murder in the drive-by shooting of two 16-year-old boys in April 2009.
Hector Trejo, 22, and Manuel Villanueva, 20, showed no emotion when the verdicts were announced in Fresno County Superior Court. Their relatives cried in Judge Jonathan Conklin’s courtroom.
A jury of six men and six women deliberated 2 1/2 hours before finding them guilty of murdering Carlos Rodriguez and Eduardo Alvarado near Camacho Park on April 1, 2009.
Jurors also determined that Trejo and Villanueva committed the murders for the benefit of the Vario East Side Reedley criminal street gang.
According to prosecutor Chris Walsh, the victims were together on a bicycle when they were shot by Trejo, who was driving a pickup truck. Villanueva was a passenger in the truck.
