Hearing delayed for rapper

Tuesday, December 09, 2003 – LONG BEACH Rapper Tray Deee of the hip-hop group Tha Eastsidaz was a “medical misout’ in Long Beach Superior Court on Tuesday where he was scheduled to be arraigned on four felony counts relating to a shooting in the 700 block of Nebraska Avenue last month.

It was the third time the 37- year-old’s arraignment had been postponed since his arrest Nov. 8. He is now scheduled to enter a plea Friday.

The rap artist, whose real name is Tracy Lamar Davis, was arrested in connection with the Nov. 7 shooting of two people in a car. He was charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, one count of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

He has four prior convictions dating back to 1985, court records show, and is being held in lieu of $710,000 bail.

Davis’ wife, Deshon, was in court Tuesday with several members of her family to support her husband and was shocked that the sheriff’s department declared him a medical misout a name reserved for those who miss court appearances for medical reasons. She had spoken to her husband Monday night, and he was healthy, she said.

Deshon Davis, who has two children with the rap artist, said she is convinced her husband was targeted because of his past, not his present. She said the family moved to Fontana several years ago to start a new life and is frustrated that he is still being labeled an active gang member.

“He’s married,’ she said. “He’s in the music industry. He’s an actor.’

Tha Eastsidaz, formed by Tracy Davis and fellow rap artist Goldie Loc, has collaborated with Long Beach native Snoop Dogg to release two platinum-selling records and recently has been working on a third, Deshon Davis said.
