OAKLAND _ Separate gang-related shootings early Saturday left a 17-year-old San Leandro boy and a 17-year-old Oakland girl in critical condition, police said.

Even though the shootings appear to be Latino gang-related, police do not believe they are connected.

The boy was on life support at a local hospital while the girl is expected to recover. Their names were not released.

The boy and his 20-year-old cousin, also from San Leandro were driving in the 4500 block of Bancroft Avenue about 4:10 a.m. Saturday when another vehicle pulled alongside and an occupant started shooting at them, police said.

The victims’ car hit some parked vehicles before stopping. The 20-year-old was not hurt. The suspects fled, police said.

The girl was wounded about 12:26 a.m. as she stood with some friends at 58th Avenue and Eastlawn Street.

Someone in a passing vehicle shot at them after some words were exchanged, police said. The girl was the only one hit by the gunfire. She was taken to a local hospital.

The suspects drove away after the shooting.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in each case. Anyone with information can call police at 510 238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510 777-3211.
