Man shot in head, police search for suspect

westlakeLOS ANGELES (CNS) — Los Angeles police are searching for the gunman who wounded a man Sunday night in what police believe was a gang-related shooting near 6th St. and Bonnie Brae St. in Westlake according to LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera.

The shooting was reported at 7:49 p.m. Herrera said.

The victim, a male Hispanic, was shot in the head. He was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown.

Police believe the shooting may have been gang related.

The suspect, who is still at large, was described as a male Hispanic, 5 foot, 8 inches tall, about 160 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. His weapon was a black, semi-auto handgun.

The gunman fled the scene in a vehicle heading north on Normandie Avenue. Police have requested a helicopter to join the search

LAPD units have shut down northbound traffic on Bonnie Brae Street to Wilshire Boulevard during their investigation.
