4th arrest tied to events leading to CSUF lockdown

Police have arrested a fourth man in connection with a jewelry-store holdup and shooting in Moreno Valley that led to a police pursuit to Orange County and forced the lockdown at Cal State Fullerton two weeks ago.

Roosevelt Andrew Fernandez, 26, of Compton was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy, gang blankociation, parole violation and the use of a firearm during the commission of a robbery, a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Blue light from a police vehicle bathes a SWAT team as officers march toward the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics building at Cal State Fullerton Dec. 12. The campus was in lockdown mode while authorities searched for suspects tied to a Moreno Valley holdup and shooting and a Fullerton carjacking earlier in the day.

Authorities allege Fernandez and three other men armed with handguns and wearing ski masks forced their way into a jewelry store in Moreno Valley about 3 p.m. Dec. 12 while a fifth man waited in a dark-colored Lexus. A clerk was shot during the robbery.

Minutes after the robbery, a California Highway Patrol officer saw the getaway vehicle, which sped away, leading to a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph before ending across the street from Cal State Fullerton when the Lexus crashed into a parked car, authorities said.
