Pacoima shooting victim identified

Daily News Wire Services

A 22-year-old man fatally shot in a gang-related drive- by in Pacoima that may have triggered pay-back shootings was identified today.

Abraham Manuel Guerrero of Pacoima was shot to death while walking in the 12500 block of Correnti Street at 2 a.m., said coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie.

A dark-colored vehicle with three suspected gang members inside pulled up and someone inside fired the deadly shot, said LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman.

Guerrero died at the scene.

Detectives were trying to determine if the killing was related to a shooting in which three people were wounded later that morning outside apartments near Whiteman Airport.

Police said all three were expected to survive.

Los Angeles police Sgt. Sherri Egan said the midmorning shootings have not been linked to Guerrero’s murder, but that the two crimes were being investigated as possibly related.

She said the victims were travelling in two vehicles when they became lost on Osborne Street, two miles east of the Golden State (5) Freeway. “They pulled over here to try to reach the person they were trying to meet,” she said.

While on the phone, the victims suddenly found themselves under gunfire and “everyone took off running,” Egan said. She said the victims may be gang members, as they had gang tattoos.

As of noon Sunday, officers had the area cordoned off and were taking pictures of a late-model pickup truck outside the apartment building at 12236 Osborne Place, near the intersection of Osborne Street and Osborne Place.
