Fugitive suspect in 4 deaths returns to Calif.

Associated Press | December 29, 2011

San Bernardino, Calif. — A man who had been on the run for more than a decade has arrived in Southern California from Mexico to face charges in the fatal shootings of four people, including two gang leaders.

The FBI says agents in Mexico escorted 36-year-old Froyland Chiprez to Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday.

Chiprez was taken into custody in June in Tijuana, Mexico. Police say he’s suspected of firing gunshots outside a San Bernardino duplex in July 2000, killing four men. Two of the victims were presidents of local street gangs, leading some to dub the case “Dead Presidents.”

Three other suspects have been arrested and convicted in the case.

Chiprez could face life in prison without parole if convicted.
