A self-proclaimed gang member is behind bars today after he allegedly attacked two people with a crow bar while burglarizing a residence and vandalizing vehicles last night.

While deputies were investigating a battery call in the 1000 block of Old Stage Road Sunday night about 9:49 p.m., they heard the sound of breaking glass about a block away, near an apartment complex.

Deputies responded to the situation in the 1100 block of South Vine right away. “When the deputies responded, they observed a Hispanic male carrying a crow bar,” said Sgt. Joe Montion. “The suspect then dropped the crow bar and ran.”

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Louis Angel Valencia, ran in the direction where deputies were still working the battery incident and was apprehended by one of those officers.

“Deputies suspected he had just vandalized vehicles and chased after him,” Montion said.

Upon further investigation, it appears Valencia had assaulted two people with the crow bar. The victims escaped in a vehicle without apparent injury, Montion said.

Valencia is reported to have caused damage to vehicles and windows in both residential and commercial buildings in the area.

Officers said Valencia appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crimes.

Montion said Valencia is a self-proclaimed member of the Varrio Fallbrook Locos (VFL) street gang. He is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, residential burglary and felony vandalism. Valencia’s bail has been set at $97,500.

FALLBROOK- A reputed gang member is behind bars today after he allegedly attacked two people with a tire iron while burglarizing a home in Fallbrook, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Deputies working on an unrelated case in the 1000 block of Old Stage Road around 9:50 p.m. Sunday heard the sound of breaking glass about a block away and went to investigate, San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Julie Sutton said.

The officers spotted Louis Angel Valencia holding a tire iron on South Vine Street, she said.

Witnesses said Valencia, 19, attacked two people in a car while they were returning home, then followed the victims as they ran inside, according to Sutton.

Neither victim was hurt. Valencia, said to be a member of the Varrio Fallbrook Locos (VFL) street gang, was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, Sutton said.
