0917081320aA man was taken to the hospital Monday with five stab wounds resulting from an apparent gang-related attack in Castle, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

The victim and two other men were standing outside an apartment complex at Dwight Street and Van Dyke Avenue around 11:50 p.m. Sunday when three men approached and issued a gang challenge, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The victim reported that he and his friends said they did not want any problems, but a fight ensued anyway, according to Delimitros. The victim’s two friends, who may have also been stabbed, ran off in pursuit of the suspects and never returned to the scene, Delimitros said.

San Diego police gang detectives were investigating.
