SANTA ANA Authorities are looking for four to six possible gang members who they think stabbed a man several times early Sunday after learning he was not affiliated with a gang, they said.

The man, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was recovering at a hospital, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Stephen Colon.

“They assaulted him, punched and stabbed him,” Colon said. “He was able to get away, get to his vehicle and drive himself to the hospital.”

The stabbing reportedly occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the 500 block of South Huron Drive in Santa Ana, Colon said. The victim had been at a party about a block away.

As he was leaving the party, four to six people confronted him and asked about his gang affiliation, Colon said.

“When he claimed he had no gang affiliation, they attacked him,” Colon said.

No arrests have been made, Colon said.

Police are focusing on two suspects who may have stabbed the victim multiple times while the others watched. One is described as a heavyset Hispanic male in his early 20s who is about 6 feet tall. The second is a Hispanic male with a smaller build who is about 5 feet 3 inches.
