LAPD Detectives investigating the murder of Kevin Walton

South Los Angeles - As the sun set on another Los Angeles evening, gun violence broke out in several locations leaving at least three dead and several others injured. At about 6:40pm on Wednesday, a male assailant opened fired on victim number one, a black male, at an alley on 27th street between LaSalle and Dalton Avenues. Just 2 minutes later, the same assailant with the assistance of a driver pulled up on the 2600 block of Raymond Avenue, just north of 27th Street. They drove down the block and parked their vehicle while the passenger exited the car and walked about 100 feet towards a produce truck that was double parked on the east side of the street. The victim at the time of the shooting was patronizing the produce truck when the assailant walked up and around the truck and opened fire on victim number 2, Kevin Walton (aka Evil), and fired 4 or 5 rounds hitting the 33-year old male in the head.
Scene of the first shooting on 27th and LaSalle
The fire department pronounced Kevin dead at the scene while victim number one was transported to the hospital in critical condition. No arrests were made in the double hit, but witnesses are positive that the shooter was Hispanic.

Many of the people on Raymond Avenue heard the gunshots from the first shooting on 27th & LaSalle, but were surprised to hear and see the same gunman on their street which is about 5 blocks east of the first location. Los Angeles Police Department were on the scene till 11:49pm, when the Los Angeles County Coroner transported the body of Kevin. Both victims knew each other but no motive for the shooting was determined, other than that the shooting was gang-related.

Actual bullet found on Raymond Avenue after LAPD left the scene at 11:50pm. Was found in a freshly shattered headlight of a car parked on the west side of the street from where Mr. Walton was murdered.
In another unrelated incident, at 10:35pm, Edmund O.reefe Brown, 28, and Bryan Du'wan Brown, 23, where killed on the 2100 block of West 84th Street at 84th Street and Van Ness Avenue. Both males, who were not related, were not gang affiliated and were shot several times in the house while the mother of Bryan was in another room. She heard four or five shots and ran to the room to see her son barely alive. The assailants quickly fled the scene. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the victims dead at the scene. The other victim, Edmund, was a native of New York and was pursuing a rap career in Los Angeles.

This tragic killing reminds me of a shooting that occurred in 1996 in Los Angeles, where 3 people, who were up and coming rap artists, were all gunned down execution style in a house in the west Adams area of South LA. No arrests were made in those killings, but it was rumored that Death Row associates were involved in those shootings because of a deal or an agreement that went sour.
Memorial to Kevin Walton at the site of his murder.
