Gilbert D. Sanchez
Gilbert Sanchez is an expert on culturally-based youth gangs, particularly in Southern California. Formerly a gang member, Sanchez has vast experience with grassroots efforts in gang intervention, prevention and counseling. He also has extensive relationships with public agencies and community-based organizations and youth groups in the Chicano/Latino, African-American and Asian Pacific Islander communities of Los Angeles. He initiated and developed the former Gang Violence Bridging Project for the Cal State L.A. Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute of Public Affairs, and has won numerous honors, most recently, the 1999 California Peace Prize from The California Wellnesss Foundation.
