Video: Deputy Shot and Killed in Ohio at Mobile Home Park; Gunman Dead

Enon, Ohio (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed and a police officer was wounded after a trailer park shootout.
The drama unfolded in Enon, Ohio, which is about 20 miles northeast of Dayton.
It all started when a deputy was photographing a footprint as she was investigating a report of gunfire. That is when she was shot and killed without an opportunity to return fire or even take cover.
A blaze of gunfire ensued after deputy Suzanne Hopper, a wife and mother, was killed.

The action happened just after 11:30 Saturday morning. Witnesses described the scene as all hell breaking lose.
The shootout lasted for a matter of seconds when one officer was wounded.
He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but hospital officials expect the officer to be okay.
After the fog of gunfire and smoke grenades cleared, the gunman was found dead in his trailer.
An emotional Clark County Sheriff spoke about what happened just before the mother of two was killed.
“It appears that the door of the trailer opened, and the person inside fired one shotgun blast, striking the deputy and fatally wounding the deputy,” said Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly. “The deputy was an outstanding deputy and is married and a parent of two children. This is the worst day in my 24 years as the Sheriff of Clark County,” said Kelly.
Sheriff Kelly said Suzanne Hopper was a dedicated member of the Sheriff’s Office. She was hired in 1999 and was known for putting on charity events for the Special Olympics.
Those close to her say she always placed service before self.
So far, it appears nobody knows why the gunman lashed out. Officials say the suspect had a history with police. Some of the people living in the trailer park say he had quite a temper.

Certainly, if you are referring to my people being those that seek truth, equality and fairness in a society or should I say world where you have to fight for what is yours.

The dead suspect’s name was Michael Ferryman and you can look up his photo.
I understand. This is just another way of saying “See, it’s not just black people”. I think anyone intelligent enough can already realize that. I am not sure of what the relevance of this man’s skin color has to do with the story or your insinuation that trailer parks are white ghettos. That’s like a white person saying that all public housings are filled with black crack heads. I mean I am sure that there are ignorant white people that have said that, but I doubt any of them had any journalistic integrity. Maybe I need to take off my rose colored glasses and be a mean spirited, negative person. One thing is for sure, I’ve travelled all over this world extensively, and I have never seen this kind of stuff like I have seen in the United States. I am not insinuating anything, I am precisely saying that a trailer park as such considering that characteristics of this area would be defined as a ghetto in the same way that the housing projects in Cleveland would be defined.
Believe this, if Ferryman was black, his face would be plastered all over the evening news in heavy rotation, of if he was an illegal immigrant, or if he was a gang member, forget about it.
But a white guy in a trailer park can “quietly” murder a police officer, injure another one and received less media attention than others.
Don’t waste yor breath, SW, these people are all one track minds. Payback toward the white man, any white man. Doesn’t matter that the plantation owners lived years ago, they still blame white people and it’s been their passport to thievery and thuggery and laziness. I have much more respect for the hispanic man. They work hard and never chick and complain. Move to Europe. The blacks and whites there get along because the blacks there are all educated.
