The pregnant wife of a Pennsylvania state trooper and her unborn child died in their home Friday afternoon — possibly the victims of a tragic accidental shooting by the law enforcement officer.

Authorities found JoAnne Miller, who is married to a state trooper, shot inside her home in East Norriton Township, Pa. The investigation is ongoing but TV station WPVI reports the shooting may have occurred when the 7-year veteran trooper accidentally discharged his handgun and struck his wife in the head.

The weapon was not the trooper’s service weapon, the station reported.

Montgomery County First Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death. The trooper, whose name has not been released, immediately called 911, reports TV Station NBC10.

The couple was home with their two other children, the station reported.

Miller was immediately taken to a local hospital but she and her unborn baby did not survice their injuries, the station reported.
