A Galveston police officer was arrested Friday on aindex drug charge, according to a statement from the police department.

Galveston police learned Tuesday that Officer Michael Andrews had been in contact with a drug supplier, based on details provided from an outside law enforcement agency.

The outside agency is currently conducting an investigation into the distribution of steroids in Galveston. Andrews, who has been a Galveston police officer since December 2012, has been placed on administrative leave.

Andrews is charged with possession of a controlled substance and his bond is set at $5,000.

Galveston police said in a statement, they take the  integrity of their officers “extremely seriously” and  “any violation of that integrity and public trust will be dealt with swiftly.”
