Former Modesto police officer arrested Staff
March 16, 2012 | 12:00 p.m. PST

Lee Freddie Gaines II, a former Modesto police officer was arrested at his Modesto home on Thursday and, after a brief court appearance, was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail, according to police Lt. Rick Armendariz. Gaines had worked for the department for five years before he was “separated from employment” with the department Feb. 10.

Detectives say he “committed criminal sexual violations against an adult female” while on duty in early January. The arrest was made after the Stanislaus County district attorney’s office obtained an indictment from a criminal grand jury.

The woman is described to be  37-years-old, and works as a massage therapist out of a local motel and advertises her services on a web site. She said she had been working out of that motel for a couple of years, which is where the incident occurred.  In an interview with the Modesto Bee, she said:  “I want people to know what this cop is doing, I want them to know who he is, what his face is like, that he used his badge and his uniform to sexually assault a female. “
Gaines faces felony charges of oral copulation by force, violence, duress or fear of bodily injury; being armed with a firearm in the commission of a sexual offense, and a felony sex offense enhancement.
