Officer Ricardo Lizarraga

On February 20, 2004, Officer Ricardo Lizarraga was fatally wounded when he and his partner Joel Ruiz responded to a domestic violence call in the Newton Division. Kendrick Johnson, a 32-year-old convicted felon and gang member, was arrested cowering in an alley but died before he could stand trial for the murder. On February 24, Johnson was found hanging from the bars of his County jail cell.

Lizarraga attended Santa Monica City College and was employed at a supermarket chain for 10 years prior to entering the LAPD. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his parents Candolario and Cristina Lizarraga and siblings Jorge, Lorena and Laura.

The “Blue Ribbon Fund” trust was established in the name of Officer Ricardo Lizarraga at the Newton Division, Los Angeles Police Department, 3400 So. Central Ave., Los Angeles, CA., 90011, whose donations support Lazarraga’s family and scholarships to students of his alma mater at Hamilton High School.
