An internal LAPD investigation found that motorcycle officer Patrick Smith, a 15-year veteran, was guilty of racial profiling.

The report found that Smith, a white police officer stopped Hispanic drivers because of their race, according to the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper also stated it was the first time that the LAPD concluded that one of its officers was guilty of racial profiling.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck would not comment directly about the investigation, but in a statement, he said, “Any complaints of racial profiling or racially biased policing are thoroughly and impartially investigated. Each of these complaints are investigated to the fullest measure, wherever the investigation takes us. However, the vast majority of these complaints are determined to be unfounded.”
