Violence Up in LA Among Latino, Black Youth

LOS ANGELES — La Opinión reported last month that 22 killings in 13 days brought a surprising end to Los Angeles’ low crime trend of recent years. In a follow-up story Monday, the Spanish-language daily reports that the majority of those killed were black and Latino youth. In Los Angeles County, 32 percent of murder victims were African American, 11 percent were white, and only 3 percent were Asian. Latinos in Los Angeles County are five times more likely to be victims than whites, and nearly twice as likely as African Americans, La Opinión reports.
Experts say the high rate of murders of black and Latino youth may be linked to access to weapons and gang affiliation. They also cite poverty and social conditions, as well as lack of parental supervision, as factors that may contribute to the violence.

why dont the goverment stop spending on other countries for a while and focus doing up poverty areas like more community helpers,get the kids off the street as its the same here in uk not for killings as much but poverty nothing for kids to do, they all need to get ther heads into these communitys
That would be nice Tray, but as we all know, there are no back slappings from the liberal party for saving a community in this country. Rock Stars get no air play unless they go abroad and help other countries. There are no awards dinners or banquets or fundraisers to help a community in this country. We throw it all overseas to a country that eventually will hate us anyway and kill our people like it has in the past so many times.

We have to do something for our young people. Now we having knee high killers in our communities. When will it be enough for us to live like this? We “seem to help other countries” but who’s helping us? We have to stop killing each other. And focus on the bigger picture. That’s helping each other.
Back in the Mid 80′s, I lived in a conservative (read mostly white) county on the East coast. AIDS was starting to hit big, it was devestating enough that it was hitting a minority segment of the population, but it had the potential to transcend into the general population. I took a Red Cross HIV education class so I can hand out literature and yes, condoms to at-risk youth. I was kicked out everywhere I went because I decided to hand out condoms to teens, they thought I was promoting wanton sex among youths. But my response was they were going to have sex anyways wether or not I gave them condoms, so wouldn’t it be better for more than one reason to at least give them some protecction? No go. I was kicked out everywhere I went, but I persisted. I went to a mall and handed out pamphlets and condoms to teens and was arrested. I went to county board of supervisors meetings and was ejected from the premises. That year I was followed by cops, pulled over for no reason except they said they made a mistake and thought I was someone else, after of course, they searched my car. I got audited by the local tax board, they found nothing, my driver’s license was suspended and come to find out they had made a “mistake” and reinstated me.
Now im a white dude, but I had to do what I had to do, it was a scary time and people didn’t know where this disease was going, but they all knew it was an instant death sentence at that time. But I kept going to board meetings and as a citizen of that county, they HAD to let me get up and speak. Afterwards I had a lot of people come out and thank me for having the guts to do what I did, especially since it was televised.
Shortly after, the county design an HIV prevention program aimed at youths. That’s what I wanted, finally. My point is, if you want change in your communites, with the current government we have, you are going to have to be in your face about it and do not give up! You may lose friends, your job, you willbe harrased and I suspect maybe even threatened physically, but you have to start with the local governments and go from there. One person can make a difference. And that perrosn is you.

It really started be cause the white inmates were getting robbed in LA. county jails, for their shoes, and money, so the , then cholos gangs saw an oppertunity to cash in and stared to defend the whites , and then told the black ,they got the whites back , after a while the cholos started to do the same thing , so they took money out of our mouths and we fell for it!
