Looking south from Midtown Manhattan with the Empire State Building to the left of the picture. The Empire State building was once the tallest building in the world when it was built in the 1920s. It was the eigth largest in the US until 9-11-01. The buildings taller, in order of tallest, are: World Financial Center in Shanghai, Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sears Tower in Chicago, Jin Mao Building in Shanghai and the former World Trade Center buildings in New York City.
