Contents of Gang Tape Volume 4

Volume 4 consists of news footage, interviews, and other programming regarding gangs in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department. There is also footage of gangs and the Rampart division of the LAPD and the North Hollywood shoot out between bank robbers and the LAPD. There are over five hours of footage. The list below will give you the details of this video tape. 1. History of American Street Gangs, 2000, 90 minutes
An examination of American Street gangs going back to the 18th and 19th century European immigrant gangs. The first street gangs in the original colonies of the US, the Zoot Suiters of the 1940s, the Bloods and Crips in Los Angeles, the Vice Lords in Chicago and their political activities are among some of the topics discussed. The Chinese gangs in San Francisco and their secret underworld associated with Triads and Tongs throughout the 1970s are also examined. LAPD.s CRASH unit is discussed in the wake of the Rampart police scandal.

2. Kenneth Gay sentenced to Death, 2000, 2 minutes 34 seconds
Kenneth Gay was sentenced to death for the 1983 killing of LAPD officer Paul Verna. He was already convicted and given the death sentence in 1985, but his case was over turned. Ed Asner testified on his behalf during the second trial and he knew Gay because he wrote a screenplay that won him the 1984 American Film Institute award.

3. Raul Munoz testified, 2000, 4 minutes
A gang member testified against the LAPD officers from the Rampart Division, Liddy and Buchanan. Also Flores, Rafael Perez., ex-girlfriend made accusations that Perez killed people and buried them in Mexico. She latter admitted that she was lying and was sent to prison for file false reports.

4. Gang Killing in Chicago, 2000, 20 minutes
Mario Ramos killed a kid named Andrew Young in 1997 in what was believed to be a gang shooting. A priest in Chicago reached out to Ramos because he knew him. Ramos. father talks about his feelings that his son killed another kid and Ramos in prison talks about how he got involved in a murder and his relationship with the priest. The parents of Young have also met with Ramos to understand why he killed their kid.

5. North Hollywood Shootout with LAPD, 2000, 8 minutes
The most intense shootout in the history of LAPD with two bank robbers that were armed with AK47s and body armor is captures on video from 1997. The LAPD were out-gunned by two persons and about 9 police officers and 3 several civilians where hit. SWAT teams arrive to attempt to capture the suspects. Ultimately the two bank robbers where the only ones killed in the 44-minute shootout. Most of the shoot out was taped by media helicopters and looked like a scene from the movie Heat with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro.

6. Ricky McGins last day and execution in Texas, 2000, 11 minutes, 30 seconds
Ricky McGin is executed in Texas for the murder of a woman, Ms Roberts. The prison chaplain discussed the process to the mother and family of the killer and the process is described to the victim.s family. Both sides go through some strong emotions in preparation to the execution. McGin speaks to his mother over the phone and goes to his execution that took place in Huntsville, Texas to be the 141st person executed. The actual execution is not shown.

7. Snoop Dogg at Home, 2000, 6 minutes, 22 seconds
Snoop Dogg discusses life at home and in his neighborhood in Claremont, California. He shows his studio, swimming pool, basketball cars and his cars.

8. Gangs in Buffalo New York, 2000, 44 minutes
The killing of Larnell Catrall by a gang leader in Buffalo in 1988. Mr. James Wright was the only witness to the shooting and identified Donald "Sly" Green. Green was arrested and went on trial but Green.s associates tried to kill Wright, the main witness. Green was the leader of a gang called .The LA Boys. and was well known by the police. He was already convicted of a murder while he was a teenager and did 10 years for another crime after that. When he was released he and his brother started a gang with LA drug connections. It would take several months before they would arrest him and he attempted have James Wright killed, witness to the murder. Other murders in East Buffalo that are connected to the LA Boys are discussed.

9. New York City Black Panther Party and Conspiracy Case, 1992, 37 minutes
The New York City Police and the FBI tried to indict 21 Black Panther Members including Loruba, Curtis Mullin, Afeni Shakur, the mother of Tupac Shakur for a series of crimes including the killing of a police officer.

10. Black Panther Party in Oakland and Los Angeles, 1996, 1 hour, 44 minutes
A Discussion of the forming of the Black Panther Party in Oakland according to Bobby Seale and of Black Liberation party. Other topics covered and persons heard include COINTELPRO, Nelson Mandella, Puerto Rican Nationalism, Elaine Brown, Kathleen Carver, Charles Mingus 3, US Organization of Ron Karenga, FBI agent Wes Swearingen, Ronald Freeman, William Turner, Leonard Peltier, Philip Agee, and Fred Hampton. The assassinations of Alprentice .Bunchy. Carter, John Huggins, and Fred Hampton are discussed and how drugs infiltrated the inner city. Interviews with prison inmates considered to be American political prisoners including Mutulu Shakur are included.

11. North Hollywood Shootout and the SWAT, 2000, 7 minutes
Footage of three SWAT officers taking down Monteserana, one of the bank robbers, of the Bank of America branch in North Hollywood and over 1700 rounds of ammunition were fired.

12. Rapper Kid Frost and his son Scoop, March 2001, 10 minutes
Rap performance by Kid Frost from Los Angeles and his 13-year-old son Scoop with a follow up interview about their future projects such as the Low Rider tour, rap collaborations, and plans for their record label Hitalick Records. "Still Up in This" is the name of their new album.
