By Jim Fitzgerald   WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A judge sentenced father-and-son gangsters to federal prison terms, granting leniency to the ailing father but imposing the maximum on the son.

"You saw what your father's life was like and you saw what that life brought upon your family, particularly the women," Judge Barrington Parker told Craig DePalma on Friday. "You ... cast your lot with Gotti and associates."

DePalma, 33, who was indicted with John A. "Junior" Gotti, pleaded guilty in January to, among other charges, racketeering, extortion and loansharking. Parker could have sentenced him to as few as 70 months, but he chose the maximum of 87 months in prison.

Hours earlier, the judge went to a medical center in Valhalla to sentence Gregory DePalma, who had admitted to gambling, extortion, labor racketeering and tax crimes. DePalma, 67, suffers from lung cancer.

When the elder DePalma pleaded guilty in January, a sentence of between 10 and 13 years was expected. But the judge departed from the guidelines, citing his ill health, and imposed just 70 months.

The DePalmas were soldiers in the Gambino family, serving John J. Gotti and then, after his imprisonment, his son, John A. Gotti.

Junior Gotti pleaded guilty in April to racketeering and other charges and faces up to 87 months in prison at his sentencing next month.
