Man slain in Compton Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - COMPTON -- A 42-year-old man was fatally shot in Compton Wednesday night, authorities said. The man, described as a "veteran gang member,'' was shot on the 600 block of East Banning Street at about 6:43 p.m., said Sgt. Silverio Rivas of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died fron his wounds, Rivas said. The victim's identity was not immediately released.
