In exchange for the plea prosecutors agreed to drop an attempted murder charge against 34-year-old Timothy McDonald.
McDonald was sentenced to one year in jail and five years' probation yesterday. He has credit for serving nearly a year in jail awaiting trial.
A judge declared a mistrial in the case last month after a jury deadlocked on McDonald's guilt.
McDonald allegedly pointed a gun through a car window at a man in South Los Angeles last October before he was stopped by police.
No shots were ever fired and no victim has been identified in the case.
McDonald's attorney says his client had no plans to shoot anyone.
