9 shot in Valley feud; one dead
Monday, July 12, 2004 - LAKE VIEW TERRACE -- One person was killed Sunday and eight others were injured, including a 12-year-old boy, during a shooting that erupted when two feuding families met in a residential street to argue, police said.
The altercation occurred about 8 p.m. in the 12000 block of Corcoran Street when one man took out a gun and fired nine shots at the other family, police said.
Seven males and two females were shot all members of the same family and one of the males died at a hospital about 10 p.m, authorities said.
LAPD Capt. Kirk Albanese told KCBS (Channel 2) news that police are looking for a 6-foot-3-inch male Latino, 20-25 years old and weighing about 180 pounds who sped off in a late model, black Cadillac CTS after the shooting.
Early reports said the shootings may have been gang-related, but Albanese said the families had "a history of disputes over the past couple of months."
But he told KABC (Channel 7) that some of the victims were gang members.
"Some of those shot are gang members, but we don't believe this incident is motivated by gang violence. This is an issue between two families who live on the same street who don't like each other."
One family lives on the south side of the street while the victims lived on the north side, according to KABC.
Police did not identify any of the victims, all of whom were transported to local hospitals.
Albanese said the 12-year-old boy was in satisfactory condition.
Local hospitals would not confirm whether they had admitted any of the shooting victims.
