2 teens shot at Valley bus stop
Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - PACOIMA -- Continuing a wave of
bloodshed in the northeast San Fernando Valley, two teenagers were
shot Tuesday just two blocks from the site of a weekend melee that
left one person dead and eight others wounded, officials said.
Both teens were expected to survive the afternoon drive-by
shooting, with one suffering three gunshot wounds to the leg and the
other struck once in the leg. Detectives said the incident at a bus
stop at Van Nuys and Glenoaks boulevards may be gang-related.
It comes on the heels of the deadly shooting Sunday afternoon in
Lake View Terrace, which stemmed from a feud between two neighboring
families, and the stabbing of seven people on Saturday at a birthday
party in Pacoima.
A 34-year-old man was booked on suspicion of felony assault in
the stabbings, while the suspect in the shootings was still at
large.
"We've had a very difficult three or four days," said Capt.
Kirk Albanese, commander of the LAPD's Foothill Division. "We have
been bracing for the summer for a long time now. A lot of our
violence comes during the hot summer months, and that marine layer
has just burned off. We have plans in place to deal with this.
"We have directed patrol efforts to the communities where the
crime occurred in an effort to make a presence."
Tuesday's shooting occurred just after 3 p.m., when a 17-year-old
boy and a 19-year-old man were shot by two black males driving a
white Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
"They were very injured, they were leaking a lot of blood,"
said Golrokh Daghighian, the owner of a general store both victims
limped into after being shot. "They said there was a shooting and
they told me to please call 911. I had a very bad feeling. I was
very confused."
