TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) A 15-year-old girl who was shot in the head outside a South Los Angeles high school last week died Friday, relatives said.
Deliesh Allen had been in critical condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center since the March 17 shooting.
``Our prayers didn't fail. This is God's will,'' said the girl's aunt, Candacy Roberts, outside the hospital. ``Out of this tragedy, maybe there's hope for this city yet.''
Hospital spokeswoman Julie Rees declined to comment.
Authorities said Allen was hit by a stray bullet in a gang-related attack about 50 steps from the entrance of Locke High School after classes ended.
Dejuan Hines, 18, a suspected gang member, was taken into custody at the home of a relative in South Los Angeles. Hines was charged with attempted murder, but prosecutors were expected to file a murder case before his arraignment next week, district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.
An attorney who has represented Hines, Tom Stanley, has said authorities arrested and charged the wrong suspect.
