Buena Park robbery leaves one man wounded

Four heavily armed men, one carrying a semiautomatic assault weapon, attacked another group of men in Buena Park early this morning, shooting one twice and stealing a gold chain.
The victim, 24-year-old Edward Ayache of Stanton, underwent surgery this morning at UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was in serious condition and expected to survive, said Buena Park Police Sgt. William Kohanek.
The incident occurred about 1:15 a.m. in the 10000 block of Bernadette Avenue, police said, after four men leaving a house encountered a white pickup truck that was pulling up in front of the residence.
Ayache said he knew the men in the truck and went to talk to them, police said.
"Five minutes later, all four suspects got out of the truck wearing black hooded sweatshirts," Kohanek said. "Three were armed with handguns and the fourth with an assault weapon. It then turned into a robbery."
The suspects, described as Latino, demanded wallets and property from the victims and ripped the gold chain from the neck of one man. Three victims ran into the house and heard shots fired outside. Moments later Ayache came staggering inside and collapsed. He had two gunshot wounds.
The other victims were not identified.
"Right now we are going with a robbery motive, but we suspect it was gang-related in one way or the other," Kohanek said.
