King City gang member shot in legThe Monterey County Herald Article Last Updated: 04/14/2008 02:52:52 PM PDT
Police said today that a suspected gang member was wounded and an innocent bystander was nearly struck by a passing bullet when gunshots were fired Sunday outside a King City fast food restaurant.
King City police Capt. Bruce Miller said the shooting took at 8:55 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1300 Broadway Street.
When officers arrived, Miller said, they found a 22-year-old Greenfield man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg.
There were no other injuries but a 49-year-old King City woman who was sitting in her parked car on the side the restaurant was nearly hit by a bullet that passed through her car, Miller said.
Witnesses told officers the shots were fired from a white car with primer, possibly a Honda, with at least two people inside, including the driver and a passenger who was the shooter.
Miller said the car fled and was last seen driving south on Highway 101.
The wounded man was treated and released from Mee Memorial Hospital. According to Miller, the victim, whose name was not released, has ties to a Greenfield street gang and it appears he was the intended target.
Miller said the investigation is continuing and that the incident is being treated as gang action.
