Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives are investigating two gunshot homicides in East Los Angeles late Monday that claimed two men less than two miles apart and within 90 minutes of each other.
The first shooting, at North Brannick Avenue and Floral Drive, was reported around 8:30 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Ed Hernandez, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department.
Described only as a "male Hispanic adult," the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, Hernandez said.
"The first incident is possibly gang-related," Hernandez said.
Less than 90 minutes later, at 9:50 p.m., deputies received a call of a second shooting in the 1100 block of South McBride Avenue near Verona Street, he said.
The victim, also described only as a Latino man, died at the scene, Hernandez said. His name was withheld by the coroner's office until his family could be notified.
Hernandez said detectives have not determined whether the deaths were related.
"It's really hard to tell, as there are a lot of different gang cliques out there," Hernandez said. "Both are right now considered shooting death investigations."
