A 31-year-old man was shot to death late last night in a possible gang-related attack as he was walking on a street in East Los Angeles, authorities said this morning.
The shooting in the 3800 block of Hammel Street near North Gage Avenue was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Deputy Oscar Butao of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Marco Corona was walking westbound on Hammel Street when an alleged gang member approached on foot, pulled out a handgun and fired, wounding Corona once in the upper body, Butao said.
The suspect, a Latino male between the ages of 18 and 22, then fled east on foot, Butao said. Corona, who was unarmed, died at the scene, he said.
Butao said it was not clear this morning whether Corona was affiliated with a gang.
No arrests have been made this morning in connection with the shooting.
