Home > All News > 2008 News John & Ken from 640 KFI Radio Los Angeles on Pedro Espinoza preliminary hearing 640 KFI radio Los Angeles June 19, 2008 John & Ken from KFI 640 radio in Los Angeles talk about day two of the preliminary hearing of Pedro Espinoza, the 18th Street gang member accused of murdering Jamiel Shaw. Prosecutor's witnesses, including LAPD gang expert testified to Jamiel Shaw's gang affiliation. Espinoza's cousins, Pedro and Javier Espinoza denied that they initially told Detective Shafia, a 27 year veteran of the LAPD, that Pedro Espinoza admitted to murdering Jamiel Shaw. They also denied that Pedro Espinoza bragged about killing a Slob (Blood gang member) and that Detective Shafia threatened their family with deportation. Det. Shafia, the last witness of the hearing, denied the allegations made by the cousins and also stated that the interviews of the two cousins were manually video taped. Shaw's moniker, Deuce Wild (not Deuces Wild as stated in the audio clip), that was mentioned in the hearing was discussed in the above radio clip, along with the red belt worn by Shaw that included a gang inscription as testified to by LAPD officer Winston Lee, 7 1/2 year veteran with the department.
