Pacoima man, 22, slain by gang members, police sayBy Sue Doyle, Staff Writer Updated: 12/31/2008 12:49:26 AM PST
PACOIMA - Gang members shot and killed a 22-year-old man over the weekend who had no ties to a gang, police said Tuesday.
Abraham Guerrero, 22, of Pacoima was slain at 2 a.m. Sunday in the 12500 block of Correnti Street.
He was outside with friends when a car pulled up and those inside exchanged words with him and others. A passenger in the car then pulled out a gun and shot Guerrero, who died at the scene.
"The young man shot and killed is not a gang member," Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Michel Moore said Tuesday. "It's a terrible consequence. He was a working young man."
Four blocks away from where Guerrero died, three men were shot and wounded at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. The shooting happened in the 12200 block of Osborne Place after the three exited the 5 Freeway because they were lost. They had pulled over and called a friend when the violence broke out.
It's unclear whether the second shooting was gang-related, Moore said.
Police have not found any connections between the shootings on Sunday.
Moore said police have stepped up their presence in Pacoima after the deadly weekend "to quell what appears to be some type of renewed activity by some violent people."
