Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
Where does the 5th & Hill name derive from? There are cross streets in the jewelry district in Downtown LA w/ the same name. I was there recently and thought to myself this can't be the same 5th & Hill. Or was that area their original hood at some point? Right there on 5th & Hill DTLA is a nice park with a bunch of office buildings surrounding it.

5th and Hill is named for the corner of the same name in DTLA. That area was grimey once, alot of old tenements buildings.triplethreat wrote:Where does the 5th & Hill name derive from? 5 AND HILL IS THE VATOS OF NICKERSON GARDEN
Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
where did you get that from? ^bgcasper wrote:5 AND HILL IS THE VATOS OF NICKERSON GARDEN
5th and Hill is a 1970s varrio, originally made up of mostly paisa cholos (kinda like Tercera aka 3rd St) who were ...
on the 5th and Hill in Downtown L.A.
.
so are you saying the have a small clique inside the NG?
i heard there was Via Locos in the Nickersons...
Via Locos is another varrio that started in West Los
so neither of those two hoods are Watts home-grown

5th and Hill vatos hit up all over the place often, giving the appearance that they are deeper and bigger than they really are.

* Watts clika
* South Central LA clika - Broadway & Vernon
* where else do they have actaully lil clikas?

Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
My homie got stuck by one of these chunties on 5th and Main over pimping some of the hoes down there. It wasnt gangbanging more on the scanless crackhead business tip. My homie was smoking at the time. After he got stuck he actually called me from a pay phone while he was bleeding out on the curb, needless to say he lived but thats all I ever heard of 5th and hill. I worked with some fools from there also in the early 90's over at the old sparkletts warehouse in Vernon.

Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
I am not a active gangmember and at times dont wanna know what goes on, but I am still a loyal friend. From what I see my homeboy was out of bounds and shit happen. The way my neighborhood works what happened there from a Varrio standpoint that was a personal problem, but from a friend stand point I took offense to it. And yes there was retribution.

Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
There used to be a bus station in downtown Los Angeles where all the main buses came in and there was a video arcade there too, and I used to be a young teen hanging out there and it is probably the first time I seen gang members fight, 18th Street from 7th & Broadway and 5th Hill fighting whom ever when ever.
It was active in downtown at that time 1984.

LOOOL ^ ^ you were a youngster back in 84, Alejandro
I remember those 18 STreet "downtown" gangsters at that arcade, i also remember the fifth and hill locos at the park by the xxx theater on the "actual" fifth & hill (cinco lomas).. Downtown 18 STreet didn't fade me none., One time their vatos tried to jam up my lil' brother while we were heading down to the Orpheum theater., i crashed in and heads up, que ondas? they backed down., puro trying to be.. SHIT NEVER REALLY HAPPENED IN DOWNTOWN., horse soldiers had that down on lock on special events, just like whittier., and while every other day of the week, it was mostly just stare downs and walk aways.. LOL

Re: 5th & Hill on Broadway & Vernon (BGS)
The 5th & Hill gang formed in the 1970s from a group of day laborers and transients who began robbing pedestrians near 5th and Hill streets in downtown Los Angeles. The gang transitioned to heroin sales
in the 1980s and has been a major supplier of heroin in Skid Row and the surrounding blocks since then. For decades, the 5th & hill gang allegedly was the biggest drug dealer in downtown Los Angeles. The
leaders lived in the suburbs and other parts of L.A, where they produced thousands of heroin balloons at their homes and then had middlemen deliver them downtown, day laborers, homeles people and even
children as young as 12 allegedly helped peddle the heroin. The gang thrived because its leaders stayed far away from the actual drug sales. The gang got the heroin in bulk from Mexico, the drugs would
come to the homes of the gang's leaders in Santa Fe Springs, Fontana and South Gate. There, authorities allege, women meticulously processed and diluted the heroin, packaging it in single-dose balloons.
Downtown turned out to be an ideal spot to find dealers because of the low-income immigrants and people down on their luck. The gang could offer some of them better money than what they could earn
doing manual labor. The gang got its start in the 1970s as a loose band of thugs who committed street robberies downtown. By the 1980s, the gang had evolved into a huge source of heroin in drug bazaars
spread across skid row. By the mid 1990s, the gang controlled many of the key intersections along 5th street and broadway, where people across southern california came to buy heroin. The gang was not known
for feuding with other gangs, but it did use violence to protect its business, they would employ enforcers who would threaten and beat up rivals aswell as their own dealers who got out of line. Detectives
got lucky thanks to the growing number of downtown surveillance video cameras, once they got a line on the middlemen who were bringing the drugs downtown, police used two dozen video cameras connected
to the central division station to find their car license plates and track their movements. This eventually led them to the kingpings. Among those arrested, the LAPD identified Pedro Sanchez-Limon, also known
as Hector Rodriguez, as the gang's leader and major supplier. They said Alberto Blanco, also known as "El Moro" was his right hand man, and Jamie Chacon Diaz, known as "Archie" was the gang's money collector and
Abel Flores, also known as "Barbs" was the gang's chief street enforcer. In the past, a dispute between a 5th & hill gang member known as "Lil Hector" and "Hoover Jack" who ran the Downtown Hoover Crips,
ended with the murder of Lil Hector. Today, this gang has been dismantled due to the police arresting hundreds of suspects a week, and the low-level dealers indentified middlemen who ultimately connected
them to top leaders, although detectives admit the downtown drug trade continues, we have put a major dent in the 5th & hill street gang.
